Geometrism: the freedom anatomy
My works captures the quest of human for eternal freedom which
governs the acts of human and the effects on victim and beneficiaries. It
states the necessity to hanker for peace in a violence filled society and
security in an insecure environments. My serial expressions are characterized
with flow of geometric rhythmic movements of lines and shapes enveloped into
creative colour orchestration.
I paint to express the way I see the society and how it
affects my general experiences in life. Art is my main medium of communication
because it enables me to send the right message about my world. As a versatile
artist with the ability to express my art in various mediums, I have done many
works with Geometrism because it gives me variety of ways to convey messages in
serial body of works. Making artworks is not just an occupation for me, it is
my passion and my voice. I love the surface quality created when lines are
explored. I enjoy the designs, shapes and rhythm when viewing a pictures. I
derive more satisfaction in creating new arts that evokes a positive reaction than
in engaging myself in other activities of human occupation. Painting and drawing has always been my
preference as it possess a sensation to my soul and make it easier to convey my
messages. Using goemetrism as a visual identity have expanded my intellectual
understanding of my figurative images.
My process of work involves, firstly, thinking about an issue
or subject and how I can analyze it visually. Imagining the concept and
deciding on the best medium, support and reference to use in conveying the
message. I make sketches of the concept
either from imagination, life or references. The working techniques and style
is an evidence of my many studies of African creative works in shapes and forms
which can be seen in ancient African arts such as carvings, sculptures,
paintings etc. I found myself enveloped in Geometrism after testing out many
art movements such as pointillism, expressionism, impressionism, realism,
naturalism, Araism etc.
I feel very delighted seeing how geometry transforms my
subject into an engaging pictures. I always anticipate the visual quality of my
concepts and hunger for more as I get satisfied viewing the transition from
start to finish. It is always sensational to me because the whole process and
experience is spiritual and supernatural… from nothing to something wonderful,
from a plain canvas to an appealing pictorial surface. It is clear that I the
artist is just the vehicle carrying and delivering messages in visual forms.
My
favourite part of the works includes the site of lines on the images in my mind
before I draw or paint it. The registration of the idea on my mind while
working, the possibility of putting many elements and principle of design
together and creating the images to reality is adventurously outstanding. I
enjoy viewing the fusion of all my experiences in each subject matter. I also
enjoy the interlocks of shapes and the transparency achieved after harmonizing
values, colours and tones. Each of the work draws me to the inner ‘chi’ or
spirit of the messages the images convey.
